March 28 – April 1: Weekly Update

Mar 28, 2022

Hi Families,

Welcome back! I hope you have had a great two weeks. I look forward to seeing some of your lovely faces very soon, and some online at the virtual workshops.

Here are a few reminders as we begin Term 3.

In-Person Classes:

Just a reminder for grade 6 and 7 students coming to in-person classes that the first class is Wednesday, March 30. The second class is the following Monday, April 4. There is no class on Wednesday, April 6 as I will be away at a conference.

Term 3 theme: We will be exploring the theme of stewardship of our planet, communities, relationships, and ourselves. Within this, we will engage in the following: 1) A hands-on program that builds scientific inquiry and experimentation skills called Tomatosphere. We will investigate the effects of space on food to support human space travel. 2) Learning about biodiversity through raising chickens and ducks and learning about their survival needs, and in consequence, exploring resource management, use and misuse, and its impacts. 3) Explore strategies to help make responsible personal and social decisions.

Virtual Workshops:

The first virtual workshop begins this Thursday, March 31. Please note that there is no class the following Thursday on April 7 as I will be away at a conference.

Term 3 Folders:

I have gone ahead and set up subfolders in your Term 3 folder. I have also added a feedback form for Term 3. Please let me know if you have not seen any of these, and I will correct that.

My Website:

I have added a new page for any questions and wonders your learners may have (at https://mkim.ca/questions-and-wonders/). They can submit anything through this page, and then come join me on Drop-In Thursdays to work through some of their questions or for extra help. I will also reach out with resources and support if appropriate.
Finally, I have attached the same three documents I included in my last email. These include information about the virtual workshops, the in-person classes, and dates for Term 3.
