Hi families,
It is already the last week of in-person classes and virtual workshops! How the time flies. I hope you are well, and that you are enjoying the slightly longer days.
There are three things to note for this week:
- Just a gentle reminder that I will be checking your February 1-14 folder starting today. If you have not done so already, please upload some pieces of evidence into the folder.
- If you have not signed up for your Portfolio Meeting with me yet, please do so at mkim.ca/portfolio-meetings. Thank you!
- Preparing for report cards: You and your learner have a space in the report card to reflect on your learning this term. It would be greatly appreciated if you can have them prepared in time for your portfolio meeting with me. Please read below for some guiding questions and how you can share your perspectives with me.
Portfolio Meetings
Purpose: The purpose of the meeting is to review the learning of the term. It is to have time for your child to share some of their highlights. We will discuss and determine assessment for learning outcomes for the reporting session. Finally, we will also look forward to the next term to identify new applicable goals.
How Long: Approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
- Child Sharing (10 mins)
- Review of term highlights (10 minutes)
- Assessment of learning outcomes for reporting (15 minutes)
- New goals for term 2 (10-15 minutes)
Who and what to bring?
- Please bring your child along! I am delighted to speak and meet with them and discuss their learning this term.
- Examples of learning: this can be physical copies, or we can view them through the family folders.
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A PORTFOLIO MEETING?
- Please go to mkim.ca/portfolio-meetings.
- You will receive an email with a confirmation of the day and time.
PREPARING FOR REPORT CARDS
In the report cards, there is space for a short summary of learning written by the Home Facilitator. Write 3-5 sentences about the growth or progress that you have seen in your student this term. Some things you could include:
● Highlights
● Things that have impressed you about your child
● Changes/progress that you have observed
There is also space for the student’s perspective on their learning. Ask your child what they have learned so far. Help them recognize their achievements. Here are some questions to guide your child:
● What are some things I enjoyed doing or learning this term?
● What is something I have become better at doing? How do I know I am better?
● What is something I want to get better at doing?
—-> Please share this with me through email or by uploading it into the family folders.
