Week 4: January 24 & 26

Jan 24, 2022

  • Soft Start Creating a mind map of your weekend.
  • Morning Meeting – As part of our morning meeting activity, we gave our hand at the ever popular game, Wordle.
  • Math – Students played some partner math games much like the ones found here.
  • Social Studies:
    • Class Discussion – How do you feel connected to the rest of the globe (on a regular basis)?
    • Activity – Students explored their personal items as well as classroom items (safely) to determine each item’s country of origin. After sharing the various countries, students had a chance to use their chrome books to look up geographical location of these countries and label them on a large map of the world. They then explored the following questions: Are there any patterns they notice? What countries appeared often? What kind of products do the different countries produce?
    • Question – In thinking of what we just learned and discussed, students questioned whether trade only recently starting existing. Some thought trade started a billion years ago, whereas some thought it may have started during the industrial revolution. We went back in time to learn a little bit about the Silk Road (which was not when trade as we know it started, but is a significant example of how it impacted and influenced various societies and cultures).
  • Art – We continued to work on our pointillism art that we started last week.
